Co-worker’s punch kills man

A construction worker died a day after he was punched in the face by his co-worker, whom he allegedly challenged into a fistfight during a spat inside their barracks in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Felix Torregosa, 35, died at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) where he was brought by his fellow construction workers on Thursday night.

Police said Torregosa and his co-workers working the Los Cebu Temple project along Gorordo Avenue, had a drinking session on Thursday night in a videoke bar at the corner of Gorordo Avenue and Jercasvil Road.

While drinking Torregosa and fellow construction worker Michael Coritana, 37, argued.

Because of the argument, the group decided to return to their barracks.

The two continued to argue while walking and until they reached the barracks.

At the barracks, Torregosa challenged Coritana into a fistfight.

Coritana ignored the challenge and left the barracks.

But Torregosa, who was holding a stone, followed Coritana, said police.

It was then that Coritana punched Torregosa in the face.

Torregosa fell to the ground unconscious after he was hit.

Coritana and some of his co-workers brought Torregosa to the VSMMC.

Coritana surrendered to the Cebu City Police Office on Saturday afternoon after he learned that Torregosa died.
