Cebu provincial policemen were warned to be on the lookout for possible wounded suspected rebels from Negros Oriental seeking treatment in Cebu's district hospitals.

The suspected rebels could have been wounded in the encounter on Monday against the 11th Infantry Battalion in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.

The military in Negros Oriental alerted Cebu Provincial Police Chief Jesus Gaquing of the possibility of wounded rebels crossing to Cebu towns.

The encounter happened in sitio Moog, barangay Planas, Guihulngan City, said 1Lt. Mark Posadas, spokesman of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) in Negros Oriental.

A platoon of soldiers was searching the area for armed men and found at least 10 members of the Kilusang Rehiyon Negros (KRN), the revolutionary movement in Negros Island, inside an abandoned house.

When the soldiers neared the house, the rebels fired at them.

Both parties exchanged gunfire for 10 minutes before the rebels fled in different directions.

The soldiers pursued them and captured two men - Monico Embudo Butas alias Dadoy and Sario, 62, of Guihulngan City and Junrey Cuevas, 19, from Negros Oriental.

Police later identified Cuevas as one of those who allegedly attacked the La Libertad police station in November last year.

They also found Leofrie Vallejera alias Bokyo of Bacolod City, whom Posadas identified as the intelligence officer of the KRN.

Soldiers recovered an M-53 rifle with a magazine and three bullets near the body of Vallejera.

They confiscated a .45 caliber pistol, two magazines, four live bullets, a magazine pouch and four .45 pistols, a hand grenade, a backpack containing subversive documents, foodstuff and personal belongings.
