THE COMMANDER of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Central Command (CentCom) yesterday bade farewell to his staff and supporters as he gets ready to step down from service on Nov. 2.
Lt. Gen. Isagani Cachuela, who served as CentCom’s commander for the past six months, had served in different functions in the Army for 33 years.
He thanked his staff yesterday by presenting them with awards in simple ceremonies at his CentCom office.
“After I retire, I will spend all my time with my family. This is the only time that we in the military can have time with our family,” Cachuela said.
The general also recognized the support of some public officials and private citizens.
“I would not want to leave you behind without thanking all of you,” he said.
He also distributed certificates of appreciation to the media.
Cachuela said one of his achievements in his short stint as CentCom commander was his transparency with the media, which, he said, played a role in the campaign against insurgency.
The general did not disclose who would succeed him.
