Hounded by financial problems with her upcoming delivery, a 19-year-old pregnant woman was arrested for possession of illegal drugs.
Richelle Diola, who is six months pregnant, was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) in a buy bust operation in sitio Ponce, barangay Carreta, Cebu City on Thursday night.
PDEA-7 said Diola was apprehended after handing two packs of suspected shabu to a poseur buyer for P300.
Diola said she was forced to sell drugs to prepare for her delivery.
?I'm trying to raise money because I am scheduled to have a caesarian operation,? said Diola in Cebuano.
Diola said her first son was also born via caesarian.
Diola, who is facing charges for violation of Sec. 5 Art. II of Republic Act 9165, said she has been selling drugs for almost six months. She said she was forced to engage in such illegal activities to help her husband, who is a garbage collector.
PDEA-7 said the operation against the woman was made after they received reports about her illegal activities.
About 6:30 p.m., a team of PDEA-7 went to barangay Carreta where a transaction was made with the woman.
PDEA-7 said Diola transacted with a PDEA agent and sold two packs of suspected shabu.
When the woman accepted P300 in marked money from the poseur buyer, PDEA-7 agents moved in and arrested her.
