A total of 50 guns, a hand grenade, two grenade rifles and shotgun ammunition have been surrendered in different Cebu City police stations as the gun amnesty program continues.
Some of these firearms were seized, surrendered or left outside police stations from Oct. 5 until yesterday, said Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr.
Comendador, Cebu City Police Office director, said they will tap barangay officials to help the police campaign against loose firearms because they are familiar with the people in their neighborhoods.
Based on police records, about 3,000 gun owners failed to renew their licenses to carry firearms.
The campaign aims to seize about three percent of these unlicensed guns every month.
Police urged gun owners to avail of the gun amnesty program which allows holders to renew their gun licenses for only P650.
The gun amnesty program started last Oct. 1 and ends on Oct. 31.
