COTABATO CITY, Philippines?Anti-drug agents and police authorities arrested two suspects in a raid on a marijuana farm in Maguindanao. Also seized were 3,000 fully-grown marijuana plants, hand guns and a hand grenade.

Chief Supt. Paisal Umpa, police chief in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said Friday that Chief Insp. Sukarno Dicay, Maguindanao police director and Chief Insp. Maldam Mokaram, led the team that raided the marijuana plantation in Barangay Kauran, Ampatuan, Maguindanao on Thursday.

The team also confiscated 10 kilos of dried marijuana leaves and two kilos of marijuana seeds and two home-made pistols and a hand grenade from two farmers who maintained the plantation, he said.

Umpa identified the plantation owner as Alejandro Linaza, 29, and his helper, Johnny Kabuti, 30, both residents of Sitio Sinawang, Barangay Kauran.

Umpa said that during the dawn raid the suspects fired at approaching lawmen which triggered a brief firefight. The two eventually surrendered.

The following day, the same raiding team searched for two accomplices of Linaza, who are his brothers, identified as Nonoy and Toto Linaza. The two suspects eluded arrest but the raiding team seized dried marijuana leaves and dried marijuana seeds.

Umpa said appropriate charges will be filed against the arrested suspects.
