One of the suspects in the killing of Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Patrick Ian Osorio surrendered to the police yesterday after learning that a warrant of arrest was issued against him.
Allan Sinogat, a barangay tanod of Maghaway in Talisay City, said he decided to surrender because he feared for his safety.
Sinogat surrendered to SPO2 Delfin Bontuyan of the Criminal Investigation and Detection and Detection Group in Central Visayas before he was brought to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Sinogat and Lyndon Horandoy are facing murder charges after two witnesses identified them as the ones who killed Osorio on Jan. 6.
Osorio was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men while he was driving his car along Maria Gochan Street in barangay Mambaling.
Horandoy remains at large.
Sinogat was earlier arrested along with four other barangay tanods in their houses in barangay Maghaway on June 18 for keeping unlicensed firearms in their homes.
Sinogat and the four other tanods were released after posting bail of P60,000 each.
Sinogat challenged the witnesses to prove that he was one of the two men who killed Osorio.
He said he was confident that he would be cleared of the charges because he said he was innocent.
Sinogat said he did not know Osorio and had not seen him even once.
“Kung ako pa ang nagpatay motago nalang ko. Dili ko magpadakop (If I was the one who killed, I would go into hiding. I will not surrender),” said Sinogat.
Sinogat said he and Horandoy were neighbors but were not close.
“Nag-drive man na siya ug habal-habal (I know he was driving a motorcycle-for-hire),” he said.
Sinogat said he was worried because he did not have money to hire a lawyer.
Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., director of CCPO, said the operation to arrest Horandoy continues.
Comendador said that the surrender of Sinogat will finally allow the hearing of the Osorio murder case to get going./WITH REPORT FROM CORRESPONDENT FE MARIE D. DUMABOC
