A Cebu city university has offered to let the police use its crime laboratory to help conduct tests and solve more cases.
Cebu City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador Jr. welcomed the offer of the University of the Visayas, which was conveyed by the school?s vice president of administration and finance Gerald Anthony Gullas to Police Regional Director Lani-O Nerez yesterday.
Chief Supt. Nerez together with Commendador and other police officials visited at least four campuses during the first day of school for colleges and universities yesterday.
If the partnership materializes, Comendador said this could help local police achieve better crime solution efficiency.
UV, which offers courses in criminology, has equipment similar to that of the PNP crime laboratory in Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City, which serves the four provinces of Central Visayas.
The UV crime lab has facilities for ballistic examinations, finger print matching, determining latent prints and equipment for drug tests.
Nerez welcomed the school?s offer.
He said the arrangement would help speed up results of forensic and scientific examinations with another laboratory available.
Nerez said his staff will draft a memorandum of agreement to formalize the partnernship soon.
