THE retired policeman is facing criminal complaint for the killing of a fellow retiree and injuring six others when he hit them while backing up inside the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) headquarters on Dec. 21.
The Cebu City traffic police filed complaint of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against retired Supt. Benjamin Miaga.
The retirees were holding a Christmas party when Miaga and his wife decided to leave. While backing up his Mitsubishi Pajero, he lost control of his vehicle and hit the other retirees and two parked vehicles.
Killed was retired SPO4 Florefino Lapinid. Six were hurt: SPO4 Ernesto Pacaña, SPO4 Aristo Dela Gracia, Supt. Edmund Binondo, patrol man Concordio Castañares, SPO4 Teddy Ariza and SP04 Rodolfo Beduya.
Traffic investigator SPO2 Nelso G. Jaime said they would still wait for a warrant of arrest to be issued before Miaga could be put behind bars.
Jaime replaced PO3 Anthony Deligero, who was relieved from his post after he allegedly mishandled the investigation.
Miaga was not arrested after the accident and was not submitted to a liquor test.
Jaime said they would still wait for the injured retirees to fully recover before they could file separate charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries and damage to property./Correspondent Justin Anjuli K. Vestil
