The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) has been under full alert since Thursday following the simultaneous terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India.
Chief Supt. Ronald Roderos said that while there was no immediate threat to the province, he ordered his people to monitor the security situation.
Roderos, PRO-7 director, said hotel security in Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City are adequate, since these hotels have perimeter defenses, especially those located near the sea. He also said Philippine Navy boats scour the sea.
Security in airports and terminals were also beefed up as well as in other crowded areas like malls and beach resorts, Roderos added.
He said incident management is undertaken to assess and set up deterrents against violennce.
Armed Forces of the Philippines-Central Command (Centcom) spokesman Maj. Christopher Tampus said they are taking the Mumbai attacks into consideration as they gear up for more insurgent attacks due to the anniversary celebration of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army on Dec. 26.
Tampus said Centcom commander Lt. Gen. Pedro Ike Inserto ordered all unit commanders to step up monitoring of insurgent attacks and intensify combat operations against the rebels in Negros and Samar.
