CEBU CITY, Philippines - Two employees of a bus company were arrested after they allegedly connived in stealing the company's earnings worth over half a million pesos.
Wilson Carriaga, 25, of Barangay (village) Legaspi, Alegria, southwest Cebu, and Jenaine Lagang, 32, of Calamba, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, were accused of stealing P531,776 from Ceres Bus Company.
Lagang worked as cashier, while Carriaga was a utility worker of the company.
A spot report by the San Nicholas police showed that Ryan Baylosis, legal manager of the company, sought help from the police on Friday afternoon after he discovered that the money kept inside a vault was missing.
San Nicholas policemen, led by Senior Police Officer 1 Guillermo Guevarra, went to the office of the company on B. Aranas Street, Barangay San Nicholas, Cebu City, to check the incident.
Lagang was still in the office when the policemen arrived.
During interrogation, the police said they sensed that the cashier was hiding something.
Other employers were also called for questioning.
During the investigation, the police learned that Carriaga requested one of the bus drivers to have his bag delivered to his house in Alegria town.
The driver who delivered the bag told the police that he noticed that Carriaga's bag was heavy.
Acting on the information, the police went to the residence of Carriaga in Barangay Legazpi, Alegria, on Friday.
Facing police intense questioning, Carriaga admitted his role in the crime and handed over a light brown bag containing P 478,876 cash and a cheque worth P52,800 to the police.
Carriaga told the police that on Thursday afternoon, he was allegedly told by Lagang to get the money kept inside the vault. Carriaga claimed Lagang told him she left the vault unlocked and they would divide the money once he got it.
Police arrested Lagang on Friday afternoon. Lagang and Carriaga were detained at the San Nicholas police station. Police said qualified theft charges will be filed against the suspects.
