CEBU CITY, Philippines – The chief and four members of the Minglanilla police were awarded the “Medalya ng Kasanayan” for their swift solution of the murders of cousins Eva Mae Peligro and Gwendolyn Balasta.
Senior Inspector Romeo Santander led his men in accepting the awards at the headquarters of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas on Monday morning after the flag raising ceremony.
Receiving the award along with Santander were police officers Proculo Ando, Roland Camello, Avelino Selloria and Rodolfo Quilala Jr.
They were responsible for the arrest of taxi driver Richard Gudelosao, his girlfriend Jean Antonette Medalle and neighbor Joseph Roy Cellar.
All three suspects were charged with the Talisay City murder of the two women, whose remains were mutilated and stuffed in garbage bags dropped in various sites.
For maintaining the best community relations, plaques were given to the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office and the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.
Talisay City and Baclayon in Bohol province won in the municipal police station category.
Sogod municipal police station and barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City were cited the most citizen-friendly police stations.
For urban areas, Barangay (village) Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City and Barangay Sta. Rosa in Danao City got the award.
Barangay Jugan in Consolacion town was chosen the most disciplined barangay.
Senior Superintendent Alexander A. Abadinas, chief of the Regional Police Community Relation, also received an award. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
