CEBU CITY, Philippines ? A direct bribery case was filed on Monday in court by the Office of the Ombudsman against Senior Police Officer 4 Reynaldo Matillano.

Assistant Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Virginia Santiago recommended P24,000 bail for Matillano's temporary liberty.

Matillano, a member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7), allegedly demanded and received money in exchange for dropping charges of illegal possession of firearms against Ronnie Hernani.

Hernani was arrested by Matillano and five other CIDG-7 members on March 9 in Consolacion town, Cebu.

Matillano was entrapped by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on March 14, wherein he received P15,000 from Hernani.

The NBI also recommended for the Ombudsman to investigate Matillano?s cohorts, Inspector Elmer Roberto Balaba, Senior Police Officer 4 Rodrigo Perez, Senior Police Officer 2 Edgar Perea, Senior Police Officer 2 Pedro Tan and Police Officer 3 Artemio Tumakay.
