CEBU CITY, Philippines - A security guard was arrested after he allegedly robbed and killed a lechon store attendant in Barangay (village) Banilad, Cebu City on Sunday night.

Danilo Torrenueva, 38, of the Assault Security Agency was accused of shooting Ruel Absin, 19, in the chest. Absin was rushed to the Don Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital, but he did not get there alive.

Absin was working at the Riza's Lechon Manok where Torrenueva ate his dinner.

An 18-year-old co-worker of Absin, identified only as Benjie, said he saw the victim running towards him and clutching his breast.

Benjie said he went out to get stocks of hanging rice a few meters away because the store had run out.

When he returned, Absin was already wounded.

Benjie said Absin told him “Gitulis ko Jie, gipusil ko anang tawhana (I was robbed, that man shot me)” while pointing at Torrenueva.

Benjie tried to stop the guard from escaping but the suspect pointed a .38 caliber revolver at him and fled towards Mahiga bridge.

Torrenueva was arrested by the police a few hours later.

During the chase, Torrenueva fell into a creek and suffered cuts in the head.

He is currently confined at the Cebu City Medical Center.

A .38 caliber revolver and P2,000 cash were confiscated by police. The money was believed taken from the store.

Inspector Mario Monilar, chief of the homicide section of the Cebu City Police Office, said charges of robbery and homicide will be filed against Torrenueva.

Based on a background check, Torrenueva, who is from Argao town, Cebu, is fond of betting on cockfighting.
