Cebu City, Philippines - Policemen in Central Visayas will not be able to get their cash bonus if they fail to comply with the order to have the muzzle of their service firearm sealed with a masking tape.
Chief Superintendent Ronald Roderos, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said he issued a directive to all police station chiefs in the region to submit a list of policemen who had complied with the order.
The list will be the basis on who will be given a bonus.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordered the release of a P10,000-performance bonus to all government employees, including policemen.
The P7,000 will be coming from the national government and the remaining P3,000 will be taken from the funds of the concerned agency.
In Central Visayas, Roderos said the P7,000 will be given on December 26. Some might get it on December 27 yet because the check will still be forwarded to the different provincial commands within the region.
The P3,000 will be given after the New Year.
Roderos said those whose names are not included in the list submitted by the police chiefs will not get the P7,000 bonus.
“It will be put on hold until they can explain satisfactorily why they failed to heed with the order to tape the muzzles of their guns,” Roderos said.
The PRO-7 director said he issued the order to ensure that policemen will not indiscriminately use their service firearms during the holidays.
As for civilians who own firearms, Roderos is appealing to them to avoid using their guns in celebrating Christmas Eve on Monday.
Roderos reminds the public that indiscriminate firing can kill anyone. If it happens, the perpetrators can be traced through a ballistic test, which could be used as basis in filing criminal charges.
As for those who like to play with firecrackers, Roderos urged them to be careful so they will not harm others.
Roderos said it would be better to avoid playing with firecrackers to avoid accidents that might result to losing one’s finger or limbs.
According to Roderos, money should instead be spent on food.
