Call center to hire 6T employees

First Posted 09:57:00 01/27/2010

A CALL center company will hire at least 6,000 workers this year to man its 12 delivery centers across Luzon and the Visayas.

With the 377 production seats available in Cebu Asia Town IT Park, some 600 people will be hired in Cebu, said Marife Zamora, Convergys vice president and country manager.

Zamora was referring to Convergys? third office in Cebu, which opened last year at the Asia Town IT Park in barangay Lahug, Cebu City. The office is among five sites that Convergys opened . The other four new sites are in Metro Manila and Laguna.

Convergys first opened an office in Manila in 2003 and a year after in Banawa, Cebu City. It later opened an office at the I2 building of the AsiaTown IT Park. Last year?s new Cebu office was at the I3 building of the Asia town IT Park. The three Cebu delivery centers have at least 4,000 employees.

Zamora said Convergys? expansion last year showed that the firm continued to grow despite the global financial crisis that also affected Cebu last year.

Zamora said that this was because most of the company?s clients were not affected by the crisis.

?So while some of our clients were affected by the so called crisis, most of our other clients grew and gave us more projects,? added Stephen Daoust, Convergys vice president for operations.

?Last year alone we added 110 seats in our Banawa office and we have a total of 377 production seats available right now in our Asia Town I.T. Park office,? said Daoust.

Zamora said that with last year?s five new sites, they hired at least 3,000 people.

She said they were planning to increase the number and hire 6,000 more this year to man their 12 sites nationwide.

Zamora said they just hit 20,000 in total manpower and are still actively looking for people.

?Bringing our recruitment campaign ?wear your dreams? with Bench as our partner here in Cebu only means that we are aggressive here and we consider Cebu as a major growth area,? Zamora said at a press conference held after the Wear your Dreams fashion show in Ayala Terraces yesterday.

Zamora said they did not have problems getting talents in Cebu as the area had a good pool of talents due to the presence of many universities.

Cebu also attracts talent from neighboring cities and provinces, Zamora added.

Zamora said Convergys?s major market is the US, but it has also started programs for clients in the United Kingdom and Australia.

?It?s not difficult for us to negotiate with them especially for our Philippines delivery centers because Filipinos have always been at the top when it comes to client satisfaction. Philippines is the most sought-after site of our clients,? Daoust said.

Daoust said that they are expecting four clients to come to Cebu to inspect the company?s offices and employees before they decide to tie-up with the firm.

He said that clients are from the telecommunications, retail, and financial services industries.
