CEBU City Vice Mayor Michael Rama said the light railway transit (LRT) system may be a a good mass transport system, but wouldn’t solve traffic congestion at this time.
He said the city would only agree to have the project if it serves both the poor and the rich.
“LRT is good but BRT is what we need at this time...it’s not about spending money but whether it serves its purpose. Kung mudawat ta kay libre, it’s like gitagaan ta og sakit kay it’s for free,” Rama said.
He said construction of the LRT also mean destroying historical landmarks of the city and a view of the skyline.
Rep. Eduardo Gullas (Cebu 1st district), in an ABS-CBN interview, said he would discuss further with officials how to pursue the project even as he wondered how an LRT would take off without the agreemetn of Cebu City, where the bulk of passengers will come from.
