Businessmen yesterday were encouraged to adopt new structures in the market and implement innovative solutions to survive the current crisis.

Competition in the market has now become more intense with an informed, discerning and demanding consumer, said Edgardo Lacson, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry during the One Cebu Business Summit yesterday at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.

"Such a new environment requires new mindset and organization that is flexible and adoptable among others," he said.

Lacson, cited productive and efficient delivery of products and services as the key to competitiveness.

He said that industries should strengthen the basic organizational structure and seize the opportunities arising from this period of unpredictability.

He said companies, industries and businesses could use the fast growing technology like the Internet in managing work, leading the people, allocate resources and motivate people.

He said companies should be designed to cope with the developments.

He called on leaders and members of the different chambers of commerce in the country to work together with private organizations, civil society, non government organizations, local government units and the community.

"Let the partnership bloom and make the union a foundation of positive, sustainable, long term, social, and economic change," said Lacson.

He said that chamber leaders and members were catalysts for a globally competitive, progressive, and prosperous Philippines.

Lacson was one of the speakers of the Summit yesterday, which was part of the Mandaue Business Month celebrations.

The other speakers include former National Economic Development Authority director general Cayetano Paderanga and chairman of Zest Air Corp. Ambassador Alfredo Yao.

Eric Mendoza, president of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the activity is the cornerstone of the Mandaue Business Month activities.

He said that the event shows cooperation among the private business sector and the government in coping in this challenging time of business.
