CEBUANO-owned, Microtel Grand Resorts Mactan, is opening its doors to more local tourists in a bid to contribute in the nationwide movement of strengthening domestic tourism in the country.
Grand Benedicto, president of Enrison Land Inc., said they are ?drumming up the interests? of the local market by introducing lean season, promotional packages starting this month.
A big part of foreign arrivals are still Koreans, who come in groups. We hope to get more local tourists to come and stay with us,? said Benedicto.
General manager Dean Cid said the promo package is P2,500 for overnight stay. It starts this month until September 30.
?It's leisure within reach and offers leisure alternative for Cebuanos and local residents, who are not affected by the current (economic) situation and the A (H1N1) flu scare,? he told reporters.
The hotel, which was opened in September 2008, enjoyed an average occupancy rate of 70 to 80 percent in the first two quarters of the year.
Although Koreans comprise the bulk of foreign tourists, Cid said they continue to attract other tourist markets to the resort. These tourists include those coming from Middle East countries, Russia and Europe.
?Being dependent on one major market is different because if that market suffers low arrivals, we are affected,? said Cid.
Cid said Korean tourists will continue to come between July to September with the onset of honeymoon season. Most of these tourists will come by groups.
Corporate bookings are also expected to increase within this period.
Microtel Mactan is the eighth Microtel development in the country.
The hotel has 18 suite rooms with a floor area of 30 square meters, 55 double premium and 88 double standard rooms with 25 square meters of floor area.
