CEBU CITY, Philippines - Ayala-owned Cebu City Marriott Hotel (CCMH) has strengthened its position as the city's lifestyle business hotel now that it is ?seamlessly connected? with sister establishment, Ayala Center Cebu.
Although the hotel is mostly occupied by business travelers, CCMH Roy Abraham said they are ?beginning to attract? the local leisure market because of its close proximity to the mall.
?In the leisure market, we have a lot of balikbayans from the US staying with us (hotel) and shop in the mall. Our brand name (Marriott) is known to them,? he said.
Abraham said they also target local tourists from Iloilo, Bacolod and Davao who often go to Manila to shop.
?Since we were positioned as a business hotel, reservations during the weekends are not that high so we hope to target the leisure market on these days (Saturday and Sunday),? he said.
On the average, 70 percent of the hotel's guests are businessmen. The remaining 30 percent are leisure tourists, said Abraham.
The 300-room hotel, which have been renovated for six months now, is scheduled to complete renovation works by the third week of December.
All rooms will be equipped with flat-screen television units. By the first quarter of 2009, these rooms will also be Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) ready.
Asked if there will be an increase in the room rates following the renovation, Abraham said: ?This is our product and it has a certain value. We also need a fair share of what we have.?
Abraham said the hotel's grand launching, scheduled on December 15, coincides with official unveiling of The Terraces, the new wing of Ayala Center Cebu mall, (CCMH) sister establishment.
He said the ?seamless connection? of The Terraces and CCMH means that they will be holding more improved events and activities together.
?We can do packages together like those who come here in the weekend to shop can avail of discounts if they stay in Marriott,? he told Cebu Daily News.
Meanwhile, Abraham confirmed that CCMH donated furniture pieces, out of the hotel's 10 rooms, to the University of San Carlos three weeks ago.
This is to support the university of their plan to establish a practice hotel for its hotel and restaurant management program.
?This is a symbolic gesture to USC that we are willing to help them. All the GMs (general managers) and senior executives are willing to help the academe to teach and guide students to become better,? he said.
