A MULTI-AWARDED fireman was nominated for the outstanding Bureau of Fire of Protection (BFP) personnel award, which is organized and sponsored by the Mandaue Jaycees.
The award would be an added feather to the cap of Fire Officer 2 Romeo Birao should he get it. Although grateful of the nomination, Birao said the award is only secondary to his purpose of serving his fellow Cebuanos.
Birao has received at least 24 various awards from both the government and non-government sectors since he started in the government service in 1997 as member of Special Rescue Unit and later as chief of Cebu City fighting force.
His three major awards included the Medalya ng Papuri, Medalya ng Kasanayan and Medalya ng Pambihirang Paglilingkod.
Birao?s skills in search and rescue operations and in fire fighting techniques have helped him and fellow firemen save the lives of people and millions worth of properties from the fires.
Birao was part of the rescue team who retrieved the victims of a bus accident. The bus was loaded with children who headed for an outing when it plunged into a ravine in barangay Busay, Cebu City.
He also helped in the rescue of Iranian nationals, whose tourist bus they were riding in fell into a ravine along the Transcentral Highway recently. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
