THE Society of Adolescent Medicine of the Philippines Inc. (Sampi), an organization dedicated to the promotion of the health and wellbeing of the country?s adolescents, will hold its 6th biennial convention on Sept. 2 and 3 with a pre-convention workshop on Sept. 1 at the Cebu Grand Convention Center.
This year?s theme is: ?Adolescents in a Rapidly Changing World: Minimizing Risks, Maximizing Potentials.?
Organized in 1997, Sampi is composed of adolescent physicians, pediatricians, obstetricians, psychiatrists, dentists, psychologists and guidance counselors.
The objective of this convention is to build the competency of health care providers in adolescent health care delivery especially for adolescents with special health needs.
The keynote speaker is 2009 CNN Hero Efren Peñaflorida. Other speakers are Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Dr. Michael Tan, Cebu based psychiatrist Dr. Nancy Cinco, kidney specialist Dr. Monina Cabral, various Manila-based subspecialists and US based adolescent physician Dr. David Paperny.
The preconvention on Sept. 1 will cover basic skills in adolescent physical examination, interview and vaccination.
The convention proper on Sept. 2-3 will cover pressing bio-psychosocial concerns: ?Long Distance Love Affair: The Adolescent with OFW Parents?; ?Caring for Adolescents in the Techie World?; ?From MU to FuBu: Adolescent Sexuality in Rapid Flux?; management of substance abusing youth; adolescent depression; ADHD, Obesity, Hypertension; Menstrual Problems and other medical concerns.
The convention is open to all physicians, nurses, psychologists, guidance counselors and other allied medical professionals who are interested in the care of adolescents.
Participants will earn the following Continuing Medical Education (CME) points: pre-convention (7 PPS CME units), convention proper (19 CME units), 100 PMA units, 30 PAFP units.
The registration fees are P500 for the pre-convention and P1,000 for the convention proper.
