THE Diocesan Electoral Board (DEB) in Negros Oriental has called on civic-minded individuals and the youths to volunteer as poll watchers for the more than 4,000 precincts in the province during the May 10 elections.
A volunteer should be at least 18 years old. He or she should not be publicly supporting any political candidate.
A trainer's training will be held for the volunteers tomorrow, March 21 at 8 a.m. at the Marian Priest Center, Cathedral Church compound, Dumaguete City. Participants will be briefed on some election rules as well as their roles in their respective polling areas.
National Movement for Free Election (Namfrel) provincial coordinator Fred Magallano of DEB said the board encourages the citizenry to take active part in the election as voters and volunteers to safeguard the sanctity of the ballot.
The forthcoming election is historic and challenging because of the automated voting system that will be implemented nationwide, he added.
The DEB is composed of Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, Commission on Election, Namfrel, Philippine Information Agency, Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines ? National Secretariat for Social Action and Affirmative Action for Good Governance, a people's group in Dumaguete.
