Walking an extra mile for the earth is what the employees of the Aboitiz Group of Companies will do in support of the global observance of Earth Hour on March 27.
Environment-loving Cebuanos may join the pedestrian parade at 5 p.m. from the Aboitiz Corporate Center on Governor Cuenco Avenue Banilad, Cebu City to The Persimmon Plus on M.J. Cuenco Avenue, the city?s venue of the global hour-long switch off in observance of Earth Hour.
The walkathon will be held to encourage everyone to help reduce carbon emissions and slow down climate change.
Following the walkathon, Miss Cebu 2010 Reena Elena Malinao will join the countdown for an hour-long switchoff of lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This is the first time that all the companies of the Aboitiz Group are joined together in the observance of Earth Hour.
A Race 2 Reduce Challenge, an energy conservation initiative, has just been launched simultaneously across all the Group?s subsidiaries to unify carbon footprint reduction in all offices and among the employees.
In line with its vision for eco-ethical progress, the Aboitiz Group will mount the ?Passion for a Better World? sustainability fair from March 24-28 at The Persimmon Plus, leading to the Earth Hour celebration.
The fair will host an eco-bazaar with organic and eco-fashionable products, a weekend fresh market and a lecture series on conservation awareness.
A similar eco-bazaar will be happening at the AboitizLand?s Pueblo Verde at the Mactan Economic Zone II, in partnership with the Philippine Air Force, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City and the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority.
Concessionaires of the Visayan Electric Company (Veco) who have not yet exchanged their incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) may get a maximum of six free brand-new CFLs at Veco?s Switch Booth upon presentation of their latest billing statement.
CFLs are more energy-efficient and last 75 percent longer. Veco has prepared 50,000 CFLs for the switch.
In partnership with Greenin? Philippines, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. will also set up an interactive learning exhibit for children and grown-ups alike.
