In celebration of the World Water Day, the Cebu Uniting for Sustainable Water (CUSW) and the Environmental Coalition of Church and Civil Society will hold a forum on the impact of global warming on water quality will be held on March 22 and 23 at the MCWD Social Hall on Lapu-Lapu Street, Cebu City from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dubbed ?Clean Water for Healthy Cebu,? the forum will focus on the status of Cebu?s water resources amid the local threats posed by the climate change. It will also highlight existing good practices and technologies to maintain water quality and sustainable water use.
A Holy Mass will be officiated by Fr. Tito Soquiño, executive director of the Environmental Coalition of Church and Civil Society, at 8 a.m. to open the two-day event.
The first day will highlight plenary presentations by World Wildlife Fund-Philippines vice chairman and chief executive officer Lory Tan, Engr. Fe Walag from the University of San Carlos-Water Resource Center, Engr. Rey Delco of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District and Rey Lanuza, chief of Technology Transfer Division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas.
Tan will focus on the social dimension of climate change, its impact on the Central Visayas region, and the recommended adaptation policies.
Walag, on the other hand, will deal on climate change and its impact to Cebu?s water resources, while Delco will discuss the state of water resources for Metro Cebu and water supply and Lanuza on the vulnerability of Mananga river watershed.
Discussions from invited reactors and an open forum will follow after the presentations.
The second day of the forum will have Engr. Josephine Antonio and Engr. Antonio Tompar from Mactan Rock Industries as the resource speakers.
Antonio will expound on the topic ?Dumaguete Experience: water and sanitation.? Tompar will tackle wastewater treatment technologies and applications and desalination.
An open forum will again be held after the discussions, followed by the workshop and group discussions in the afternoon.
The event will culminate at 5 p.m. with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
CUSW executive director Archt. Socorro B. Atega and Fr. Soquiño invite everyone to attend the forum.
A registration fee of P500 per day will be collected from the participants to defray the expenses for the meals and information materials.
