USC celebrates Language and Literature and English Majors’ Association Days

THE University of San Carlos? (USC) Department of Languages and Literature (DOLL) and English Majors? Association (EMA) recently celebrated its DOLL and EMA Days this year with the theme ?Communication Across the Fields.?

The seven-day affair opened at 9 a.m. with a Holy Mass last Feb. 15 at the chapel of the university?s Talamban campus.

In the afternoon, the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), Dr. Ramon del Fierro, Assistant Dean Ferdinand Bongcayao, DOLL chairperson Dr. Charity Tecson, and Fely Latras, head of the Literature and Humanities Section, led the ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opening the Painting and Photography Exhibit.

A film festival was also held on the same day.

The next day, high school students of the USC-North Campus were inspired by the lecture on Visual Arts given by Sam Harold Nervez, a faculty of the Humanities Section of DOLL.

Later, Linguistics and Literature students participated in the debate to ?Resolve that frequent code switching be prohibited in the tertiary level instructions.? English 3 and Speech 61 students, meanwhile, joined the extemporaneous speaking contest.

Other activities held during the week were the presentation of research papers by undergraduate students and faculty, graduate students and DOLL faculty; the relaunching of EMA newsletter ?Pages?; poetry reading; singing; ballet; and the informal get-together dubbed ?Pungko-Pungko sa DOLL ug EMA.?

The week ended with students watching the play by Little Boy Productions titled ?Love Letters? starring Bart Guingona and Pinky Amador at SM Cinema 2, a talk on ?Aphasia? by Lea Rodriguez, speech therapist and a Filipino national seminar titled ?Mga Napapanahong Kalakaran at Isyung Pangwika, Pampanitikan, Pampagtuturo at Pamahayagang Pangkampus? at the Holiday Plaza Hotel.
