Responding to Pope Benedict XVI's call to evangelize politics and provide spaces for pastoral accompaniment for Christians in public office, the Dilaab movement, through the Circles of Discernment for Elections (CiDE) initiative, launched the ?Vote God? Campaign.
This nationwide campaign aims to raise awareness on the need to ?choose good and reject evil? and to prayerfully discern and systematically evaluate candidates according to both communal and Gospel values.
The campaign challenges every Filipino Christians to consecrate their votes by casting it in a Godly fashion, without vote-buying or selling, influence peddling or any other political consideration.
The groundwork for this campaign took shape in session after session of CiDE retreats, with close to 30 church-based groups and involving about 3,000 participants from as far north as Bontoc in Luzon and as far south as Mati in Mindanao. One overseas session with an overseas Filipino workers group was also held in Hong Kong in April 2009.
The sessions combined a brainstorming technique and a spirituality module to come up with a list of desired traits for leaders aspiring for public office.
The results became the basis for the LASER (Lifestyle, Action, Supporters, Election Conduct and Reputation) test.
The test in turn, necessitated the campaign to inform both the religious and lay parishioners to take full advantage of these tools to guide them through the process of discerning their final line-up of candidates for the May 10 elections.
