Moalboal town marks Fire Prevention Month

Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia graced the opening of the Fire Prevention Month celebration of the Bureau of Fire and Penology (BFP) in the southern municipality of Moalboal.

The celebration, which carried a theme ?Sustaining Fire Prevention Through Active Community Participation? was held at the municipal gym.

It started with a motorcade that was also participated in by various organizations and barangay officials.

One of the activities was a fire drill that displayed the fire fighting capabilities of members of the Moalboal Fire Station.

Governor Garcia, in her speech, promised that her administration would continue to support the BFP.

Garcia, who is seeking reelection, was accompanied by her running mate, businessman Glenn Soco.

Other activities lined up for the Fire Month celebration include an on-the-spot drawing contest to be participated by elementary and high school students and a barangay fire safety training for tanods which would pave the way for the creation of fire brigades in the different barangays.

Also fire fighters are giving out leaflets to guide Moalboal residents on how to prevent fire.

FO1 Wendell Villanueva said that while BFP is tasked to ensure efficient firefighting, it was also the people's responsibility to adopt fire safety measures to prevent the occurrence of fires.
