All roads lead to the Cebu City Sports Complex tomorrow for the grand celebration for the feast of Christ the King organized by the Archdiocese of Cebu.

Msgr. Achilles Dakay told reporters the activity is part of the year-long celebration of the 75th year of Cebu as an archdiocese.

Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal has instructed all churches in Cebu City not to hold Masses from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 22.

A concelebrated Mass will be held at the City Sports Complex in Abellana National School at 4 p.m. with Cardinal Vidal as the main celebrant.

A solemn procession to be led by Vidal will follow after the Mass.

Vidal is expected to ride on a truck or a pick-up vehicle while carrying the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance.

The feast was started by Pope Pius XI, the same Pontiff who declared the elevation of Cebu from a diocese to archdiocese.

The first celebration of the feast of Christ the King was in October 1926. Only men were allowed to participate in the procession.

?The feast was constituted because Communism was attracting men especially the laborers,? Dakay said.

?This (feast) is the Pope's Catholic action. He (Pope Benedict VI) challenged the men not only to hear Mass but also to go out on streets and attend the procession with lighted candles to profess their faith in Christ,? he said.

Dakay explained that the celebration also focuses on ?the truth about the kingship of Christ.?

Cardinal Vidal will speak on truth-telling and trustworthiness as these are the needs of the time.

?We should keep on asking 'what is the truth about politics,' 'what is the truth about family issues, about reproductive health?? said Dakay.

Participants of the procession are encouraged to arrive early and bring candles.

Strict security measures will be implemented at the gates of the sports complex.

Some 250 marshals and communicators will be deployed at the venue as well as medical station.

Roads along the route of procession will be closed to traffic starting 4 pm until the activity is over. EDITORIAL ASSISTANT BERNADETTE A. PARCO
