SINCE 2002, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has been assisting small and medium enterprises adopt the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP) to improve their productivity and competitiveness.

SET-UP priority sectors include food processing, furniture and home furnishings, gifts holiday decors and fashion accessories, marine and aquaculture, metals and engineering and horticulture.

The project, which covers Visayas and Mindanao, helped provide a venue for suppliers and manufacturers to discuss their issues and concerns related to the sector’s value chain.

Since April this year, the SET-UP gifts, holiday decors and fashion accessories sector has already made material reconnaissance missions to the different cities and municipalities of Bohol, Leyte, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Sur and Zamboanga.

This coming Nov. 9 to 11, SET-UP will be conducted in Cagayan de Oro.

Companies or individual firms who wish to avail of the SET-UP assistance may send a letter of interest, together with the requirements, to the DOST Regional Director’s office where the company is based.

They should identify current problems, improvements and potential technological interventions needed.

If their project is found viable, the DOST regional office will endorse it to the National Program Management Office for evaluation and approval.
