Philhealth increases maternity benefits

First Posted 09:05:00 11/05/2009

PHILHEALTH has increased the benefit coverage for normal deliveries of pregnant women from P4,500 to P6,500 starting last Nov. 1.

Early this year, the normal spontaneous delivery package for hospitals and the maternity care package for lying-in clinics were expanded to cover the fourth normal delivery.

These benefit packages used to cover only up to the third normal birth.

Barely a year later, Philhealth again expanded these benefit packages and included a P2,000 increase in coverage.

The amount of coverage subsidized charges for room and board; drugs and medicines; laboratory procedures, supplies and other ancillary procedures; labor, delivery and recovery room; and other medically necessary charges for delivery and postpartum care.

It also covers the doctor’s or the midwife’s professional fee, immediate postpartum care and counseling for reproductive health, breastfeeding and newborn care.

Prenatal care expenses are also covered, such as drugs and medicines, laboratory tests and ancillary procedures, tetanus immunization and prenatal consultations.
