The search for the country?s top science educators has begun.
This developed as the Science Education Institute (SEI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) implements the 2nd Gawad Lider Award.
Lider is an acronym for Leadership and Innovation for Development and Reforms.
It is a biennial award that gives recognition and incentives to individuals and groups who have made exemplary contributions to science education.
Award categories include Exemplary Leadership Award (individual), Exemplary Leadership Award (institution/organization) and Innovation.
A cash prize totaling P200,000 and medals will be given to the winners.
The exemplary leadership award is conferred to individuals and institutions or organizations that have consistently demonstrated leadership qualities leading to improvements in the field of science education.
The Innovation award is given to an individual or institution that has made a technology-based innovation that benefits education in the sciences.
Any head of an institution, community leaders, organization or individuals may nominate an individual or institution/organization for the Gawad Lider awards.
Nomination and application forms can be obtained from the Science Education Institute, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) regional office in Banilad, Cebu City.
The deadline for submission of nomination is on Jan. 15, 2010 at the DOST regional office and Jan. 31 at the SEI office.
The awarding of winners will be held during the National Science Technology Week celebration in July 2010.
