RESEARCH by the Philippine Cancer Society indicates that breast cancer is the second leading type of cancer in the Philippines and is first among women.
With almost 500,000 women dying from breast cancer each year, and its incidence rising fast over the past 30 years, the celebration of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month was made more meaningful with the support of AboitizLand Inc.
In observance of Pink October, the AboitizLand organized a breast cancer awareness forum for workers of Mactan Economic Zone II locator-companies last Oct. 17 at the MEZ2 in Lapu-Lapu City.
The event was supported by the Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris, LH Prime Medical Center, Chiral Pharma Corp. and Rose Pharmacy.
Some 115 participants availed of free services provided by the program?s partner-institutions.
The Rotary Club of Cebu Gloria Maris, led by Dr. Belle Du, provided resource speakers who talked about breast cancer and gave tips on prevention and early detection.
The club?s medical volunteers provided free check-ups.
LH Prime, represented by its sales manager Lourdel Liwag offered free statistics check-up.
Chiral Pharma distributed free vitamins and Rose Pharmacy gave free items to the participants.
