SMART Communications Inc. reaffirmed its commitment to Gawad Kalinga at the 6th Gawad Kalinga (GK) 1World Expo at the Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.

The GK1World Expo is an annual gathering of GK Village residents, workers, volunteers and partners nationwide to celebrate and renew their commitment to realize Gawad Kalinga’s GK777’s goal – to build 700,000 homes in 7,000 communities in 7 years to eradicate hunger and poverty in the Philippines.

At the recent expo, Smart expressed its support for the battlecry of Gawad Kalinga “Walang Iwanan (No one left behind)” by participating in the whole-day celebration and the relief operations GK organized for victims of typhoon Ondoy prior to the expo.

Smart employee-volunteers from different business and support units signed up as volunteers for the Operation GK Walang Iwanan relief operations. They helped in repacking food and non-food items that were distributed to the victims of typhoon.

Through the Community Care program of Smart’s Customer Care Group, a Libreng Tawag booth was also set up at the RFM Gym in Mandaluyong City where the repacking of relief goods was held.

During the expo, GK volunteers shared their GK Expo experiences online via the Libreng Internet service at the Smart booth.

E-load services were also offered to ensure that Expo visitors would stay connected to their fellow GK volunteers and partners via their mobile phones.

GK volunteers are encouraged to register to the GK InfoBoard to receive GK announcements. Registration is free. Every announcement sent by GK will be charged P1.

All they have to do is key in GKREGNAME/ADDRESS/AGE (e.g. GK REG JUAN DELA CRUZ/MANILA/25) and send to 71745 (717GK). Once registered, they can then subscribe to the service by typing GKPUSHON and sending it to 71745 (717GK).
