First mechatronics confab in RP a success

THE 13th International Conference on Mechatronics Technology (ICMT) held on Oct. 21 and 22 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino was successful.

The ?Synergy and Breakthrough in Mechatronics Technology? was attended by at least 160 representative of various groups and universities in the Philippines and foreign countries that are famous in the field of mechatronics technology, such as Germany, United Kingdom, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, China, Korea and Japan.

The delegates worked on advanced mechatronics devices and sensing, actuators and controls, production systems, bioengineering, human resources development and information and networking.

Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama welcomed the participants in his opening remarks. He thanked the steering committee for choosing Cebu City as the venue for the first ICMT in the country.

The conference ended with a fellowship banquet.

The Best Paper Presentation award was given to Edwin Sybinco (Philippines) and Ken Ichiryu (Japan) for discussing the topics on ?How Robotics Can Be Used to Attract Young Students in Pursuing a Career in Science and Technology? and ?Development of 3-Dimentional Pipe Bending Machine with a New 6-DOF Parallel Link For Industrial and Educational Purpose?.

Keichi Nakamoto (Japan) and Dinh Quang Truong (Thailand) got the Best Paper for Young Researchers for sharing their discoveries on the ?Realization of Real Time Balancing Using Magnetic Fluid For A Machine Tool Spindle? and ?A Study of Electro-Hydraulic Actuator for Force Control Using a Novel Self Tuning Fuzzy PID Technique.?

The event was organized by Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines, in cooperation with De La Salle University, Metals Industry Research and Development Center, Confederation of Scientific and Professional Organization and the Department of Science and Technology in Central Visayas.
