Some 850 people trooped to Mambaling Sports Complex in Cebu City to claim their cash grants of P1,500 to P4,200 from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The distribution was done during the “Halad sa Katawhan” organized by the Office of the President in Central Visayas, in celebration of the Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty from Oct. 18 to 24 and the Stand Up Take Action campaign.

Aside from the cash grants, other residents in the area also received packs of used clothes, educational supplies, seeds and seedlings, hot porridge and medicines from member agencies of the Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies and the Association of Regional Information Officers in Central Visayas.

The 4Ps is a poverty reduction strategy of the government that provides conditional cash transfer to extremely poor households.

The program offers cash grant for five years to the beneficiaries at P6,000 a year or P500 a month per household for health and nutritional expenses, and P3,000 for ten months (one school year) or P300 a month per child for educational expenses.

Only a maximum of three children per household is allowed under the program.
