SOME 50 hearing and visually impaired individuals in Mandaue City will undergo a 90-day livelihood training on foot spa starting this week.
The livelihood training was initiated by the Quota Club International – Mandaue Chapter, in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
Funding for the training will be taken from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of sixth district Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz and will be given annually to Tesda, the training facilitator.
Trainees, whose ages range from 12 to 20 years old, will receive an allowance of P30 per hour to be given upon completion of the training.
Estrellita Wong, a club member, offered their family owned Grand Royal Spa as venue for the on-the-job training of the trainees.
Wong said one of the priorities of their club is to help the hearing impaired and the disadvantageous women.
Once they graduate, the trainees will be organized into groups to start their livelihood.
Soon-Ruiz said she will ask the St. Joseph National Shrine in Mandaue City to allocate some space in the church for the foot spa clinic of the trainees.
Last Saturday, the Quota club turned over three electric foot spa machines that can be used by the beneficiaries in their foot spa operation in a simple ceremony at the Mandaue City Central School.
