THE Vice Mayors? League of the Philippines (VMLP) will donate more than half a million pesos for the victims of typhoon Ondoy in Metro Manila.

This was announced by Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama during the VMLP meeting yesterday attended by staff and representatives of the different vice mayors in Cebu.

Rama, who is also league president, said the amount will be taken from the league's calamity fund as agreed by the vice mayors. Rama said the donation is also intended for rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by the typhoon and for the victims of typhoon Pepeng in northern Luzon.

The Cebu City government will also give P700,000 for Ondoy victims.

Mandaue City Vice Mayor Carlo Pontico Fortuna, who presided over the meeting, said the league will discuss participation in disaster preparedness. He said it is high time that the legislative department should not only focus on passing ordinances but also on helping the executive department find solutions to minimize the effect of disasters.
