First Posted 08:29:00 10/13/2009

THE Community Involvement Program (CIP) of St. Theresa?s College has been establishing partnerships with various communities.

One of the program?s accomplishments is its partnership with sitio Kawayan, barangay Sambag II, Cebu City.

The CIP and the school?s grade school department conducted remedial classes every Saturday for the grade school pupils of sitio Kawayan.

The remedial classes culminated recently with the children showing improvement in their academic performance as well as learning the values of education that STC uphold.

The STC high school department also conducted similar remedial classes in Mathematics and English in barangay Lorega and Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish located in the barangay.

Marilou Gallarde, program head of CIP and an STC professor, said ?the program will help remind the students that the poor are also our brothers and sisters.?

The program aims to develop consciousness and concern within every Theresian, and to inspire them to share their time with the less privileged.

?It is one way of helping the community, showing our service and living out the teachings of STC,? said Roxanne Sebarre, a fourth-year Education student who has been the program for more than three years.

Started in 1988, CIP was inspired by the love for the poor and the strong sense of mission of Immaculate Heart of Mary foundress Marie Louise de Meester. STC Masscom student Patricia Manuelle S. Taboada
