Jail officials complete training on media relations

SOME 50 wardens, wardresses and officials from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Central Visayas (BJMP-7) completed a two-day seminar workshop on media relations and public speaking at the Cebu Grand Hotel on Escario Street, Cebu City recently.

BJMP-7 Regional Director Doris Dorigo said the activity was aimed to hone the skills of the participants in communicating the policies and protocols of the bureau.

Dorigo also announced the launching of its media advocates program on Aug. 3, 2009 with the media as its partner in promoting the programs of the various jails in the region.

BJMP-7 assistant regional director Senior Supt. Cesar Balderas, said in his opening remarks the seminar was designed to help the wardens and wardresses know the strategies and techniques in dealing with media practitioners especially in granting interviews.

The participants were also taught how to set up a press conference and write a press release.

Minerva Newman, officer-in-charge of the Philippine Information Agency in Central Visayas, was invited to be the resource speaker and facilitator of the entire training.

The training culminated with a mini lecture on public speaking by Dr. Ramona Ines Raneses from the University of Bicol.
