Three charities in the Philippines will benefit from the library books donated by the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Manila and the Singapore Airlines Cargo.
The beneficiaries include the Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education (Centex) Foundation Inc., Sa Aklat Sisikat Foundation Inc. and ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.
A total 750 books were turned over to the beneficiaries in a turnover ceremony held last June 17 at the Singapore Embassy in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, Metro Manila.
Ambassador A. Selverajah and Singapore Airlines general manager Clinton Tan handed the books to the representatives of the foundations. The books will be distributed to the children and student beneficiaries of the foundations.
Centex is a collaborative project between Ayala Foundation, the local government unit where the school is located, the Department of Education and volunteers. It offers educational growth in the spiritual, psychological, intellectual, social and physical realms to safeguard the dignity of the whole child.
Sa Aklat Sisikat Foundation was founded by Margarita Delgado and Lizzie Zobel with the aim to promote the love for and habit of reading in Filipino children. The foundation also provides reading materials to the children beneficiaries for the sustainability of its reading program.
The ABS-CBN Foundation, on the other hand, is engaged in the promotion of education by working with public schools and its teachers on the creation of educational programs and teaching aids that would complement classroom teaching.
