THE rainy months from June to September are here again.
The Metropolitan Cebu Water District has an average rainfall of 1,600 mm annually. The month of September has the highest amount of rainfall. Yet, rainwater is taken for granted by the public.
The MCWD is asking the public to conserve water by harvesting rainwater.
“This way we are protecting our groundwater source and recharging our aquifers,” MCWD said.
Rainwater can be used for cleaning, washing, flushing comfort rooms or bathing pets.
Cebu City Ordinance no. 2103, which is authored by Councilor Nestor Archival and former councilor Joy Pesquera, requires building owners of commercial, industrial, institutional and residential projects in the city to incorporate in their plans and designs the construction of rainwater tanks, reservoirs and cisterns.
In celebration of June as World Environment Month, MCWD encourages everybody to conserve water and energy, plant trees, practice solid waste management and promote integrated water resources management.
