The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation is exhibiting “100 Years of Bishop Gorordo” at the Casa Gorordo Museum to commemorate the centenary of the ordination of Bishop Juan Gorordo as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Cebu.
Gorordo’s ordination placed him as the first Cebuano-born bishop.
The Casa Gorordo Museum used to be considered residence of the Bishop at the turn of the twentieth century.
The exhibit at the museum’s gallery showcases an assemblage of texts, pictures and artifacts describing the bishop’s life and works, as well as the historical milieu he was born into.
The exhibit opened last June 15 with ceremonial ribbon cutting by representatives of the institutions that the bishop was connected to: Msgr. Roberto “Boy” Alesna, parish priest of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, where the Bishop’s Palace used to be; Josefa “Pepit” Revilles, a descendant of the bishop; Fr. Louie Punzalan, SVD, of the University of San Carlos, once a part of the Seminario Mayor de San Carlos where the bishop studied; and Honorary Consul of Spain Jaime Picornell.
Also in attendance were heritage workers Cebuano Studies Center director Dr. Erlinda Alburo and Central Visayas Studies Center director Dr. Madrileña de la Cerna, other descendants of the bishop, and many others.
The exhibit will run until Aug. 10.
