FORTY children residing in the PLDT-SMART Amazing Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village in Arevalo, barangay Sooc, Iloilo City received school bags from Smart Communications Inc. during the culminating program of the Smart-GK Sooc summer storytelling program.
The school bags were handcrafted by village residents out of recycled tarpaulin materials, under a project initiated by Smart in partnership with Earth Day Network Philippines Inc., for their additional livelihood.
Employee-volunteers of PLDT and Smart have been actively participating not only in the house build but also in the summer storytelling sessions.
This is the second year that SMART conducted the storytelling program for the GK Sooc children.
For five weekends, the children learned reading and art through the weekly two-hour sessions.
