A two-day special Service Caravan will be held in the cities of Lapu-Lapu on January 31 and Mandaue on February 1 by the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7) to help the displaced and would-be displaced workers in the region amid the worldwide financial crisis that forced some companies to either reduce their workforce or close operations.
A DOLE-7 composite team has been created as focal authorities to assist the displaced workers.
The team will carry the DOLE's safety net programs that may be offered to displaced workers or to their qualified dependents.
It is composed of representatives from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency, Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, National Conciliation and Mediation Board, local government units and the employers.
The mobile caravan will visit areas where there is a critical mass of displacement.
Together with the local and overseas placement agencies with ready job orders, the team will provide information to the displaced workers on job opportunities in Cebu or abroad.
Legal assistance, skills training and creation of livelihood and income augmentation projects for identified beneficiaries are expected to be part of the program.
The displaced workers may visit the POEA-7 office at the LDM Building at corner Legaspi Street and M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City or may contact 412-2939 or 416-7508 for assistance.
