Filipino Elderly Week starts

The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) announced the celebration of Elderly Filipino Week starting today until October 7.

To ensure nationwide participation and support, a national steering committee was created with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as chairperson and the Federation of Sr. Citizens Association of the Philippines (FSCAP) as the secretariat.

The theme for this year's activity, ?Nakatatanda: Huwaran at Yaman ng Bayan,? highlights the contribution of senior citizens to nation building.

Activities lined up for the celebration include: hanging of streamers, reading of prayer/message, medical and dental missions, forum on Republic Act 9257 and other topics of interest, awarding of outstanding senior citizen Best FSCAP organization, visit to home for the aged, exhibit of senior citizens project and accomplishments, walk for life, socio-cultural show, tree planting and radio and TV guestings.

The public as well as local government units are enjoined to participate in the celebration.
