Family of 11 physicians gets award

The Philippine Economic and Cultural Endowment (Peace, USA) bestowed the Peace Family Award to the family of eleven physicians, from the parents, their five children and four sons-in-law.

The award was presented to health columnist Dr. Philip S. Chua, his wife Dr. Farida Quiambao Isip-Chua, a retired pediatrician, and their five children Sheillah and husband Anthony Gentile, Felipe I. Chua, Portia and husband Luisito Gonzales, Rachel and husband Jim Brown III and couple Emily and Jeremy Greenlee.

The Chua ladies and their husbands are physicians and are based in the United States.

The award was presented in a ceremony on June 14 at the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The awarding was attended by Philippine Ambassador to the US Willy Gaa, Linda and Libertito Pelayo, publisher/editor of the Filipino Reporter of New York, Peace officers led by founding president Cosme Cagas MD, and leaders of various professional and civic associations in the US.

Ambassador Gaa presented the award to the Chua family with Peace president Frank Rabadam MD, of New York, and Asian Pacific Pediatric Association past president and Peace Board director Carmelo Dichoso MD, of Houston, assisting him.

Peace executive director Nelson Bocar, MD, coordinated the event.

Dr. Philip Chua is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He retired from his cardiovascular surgery practice in Northwest Indiana. He is currently chairman of Cardiac Surgery at the Cebu Doctors University Hospital in Cebu City.

He is also vice president for Far East of the Cardiovascular Hospitals of America (CHA) and the chairman of the advocacy group for good governance, the Filipino United Network (USA).

His health column appears in five newspapers and one magazine in the US, five newspapers and one magazine in the Philippines, and on eight websites on the Internet.

His wife is former president of the Philippine Medical Association of Chicago Women’s Auxiliary and a previous awardee (Most Outstanding Woman in Medicine) of the Circulo Kapampangan in Chicago.
