243 US Marines land in Tacloban

A team of 243 US Marines has landed in Tacloban City on Leyte island after Washington ordered urgent emergency efforts in response to Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: “Haiyan”), which has destroyed entire coastal communities.

Plans to remove the stranded United States Navy minesweeper USS Guardian from the Tubbataha Reef are expected to be finalized today, with a private Singaporean salvage company instructed to prioritize minimizing further environmental damage in the area.

13 flights diverted as airport guiding system breaks down

Thirteen flights were diverted Tuesday from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Clark International Airport in Pampanga after a navigation system which aids pilots in finding the airport, broke down.
