Cancer patient dies of heart attack on a Manila-bound PAL

A Filipino cancer patient who was returning home from a cancer treatment session in the United States died on a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight en route to Manila.

A report filed by PAL in the Manila International Airport Authority said  Daniel Samson, 59, suffered cardio-respiratory arrest on flight PR-103 about an hour and half before the plane made a  stopover in Guam.

According to the report, a fellow passenger, Purificacion Marquez, a doctor, tried but failed to revive Samson through manual cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and defibrillator gadget.

It was later learned that Samson had stomach cancer and went to the US for treatment. His wife accompanied him in the trip.

Special arrangement

The PAL pilot, Capt. Jessy Bautro, reached a special arrangement with Guamanian authorities allowing Samson’s body to be brought to Manila on the flight.

The flight, which originated from Los Angeles, arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival at the airport, Samson’s body was brought to the ramp clinic to await funeral service arrangements.
