For failing to satisfy her parents’ expectations, a 12-year-old girl reportedly hanged herself at her home in sitio Mansanitas, barangay Cogon-Pardo, Cebu City last Monday noon.

PO2 Jodan Batucan of the Cebu City police said a suicide note found near the remains expressed the girl’s disappointment in her parents for always complaining about her low grades.

Police found some cloth wrapped around the victim’s neck where the rope was placed and a white chair that she stood on to aid her in looping the rope around the wooden beam supporting the house’s roof.

She was rushed by her family to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) where she died later.

The girl earlier asked her parents to transfer her to a private school.

But her parents had her enrolled at the Pardo National High School.

Batucan said her parents promised to transfer her once they can afford to do so.

Disappointed, she went home and told her two younger siblings that she would commit suicide.

Her parents were at a photo studio to take her school photo while her siblings thought she was joking at the time.

But at noon they saw her hanging inside her room.

The two siblings told their neighbors and relatives about the incident and they brought her to a hospital.

In her note, the girl accused her parents of favoring her two siblings aged eight and six years old.

Batucan said their initial investigation showed no signs of struggle at the crime scene.

Her suicide echoed a similar incident last April 13, in which a 13-year-old boy committed suicide after being castigated by his mother in barangay Lipata, Minglanilla town, Cebu.
